Tabloidization in media.

Tabloidization is when there is an increase in sensationalism and Dramatization in news coverage, with too much attention going to celebrity news and human interest stories that seen to crowd out important stories about international events and Government Issue resulting in them receiving little to no coverage.
We also see a change in the way politics is covered – talk of horse races etc and shouting matches on talk shows all of which detract from nuanced and detailed coverage of policy etc.
Tabloidization is following the audience – the media is a commercial body, it must provide what the audience wants to read and hear?
An audience cannot be well informed about the news if they are not hearing or reading it because they see it as boring or difficult.

The tactics of tabloidization can be seen in writing techniques, moving away from long analytical writing in exchange for short, sharp sentences that everyone can understand. Also the writing contains element of drama.
There an increased importance on making it personal. An example would when reporting on news stories about financial issue they will report the story through the personal experiences of the common man usual a family with small children or newlyweds. Then process to show how they are dealing with the issue. This trivialising the news stories.
An over reliance on images a tactic that works for magazine like the national geographic. Because there serious about creating the highest quality of visual presentation in their work. But for tabloid it comes across as just filling space or in the case of reporting on a violence incident be it a car bombing or shooting. It just comes across as creating a picture book of wanton destructive.
Creating what can be known as an inexcusable Dramatization of human suffering.

But is this a dumbing down or just an honest change in the audience. The news media must engage with the audience because really at the end of the day. It’s still a business and they much provide what the audience want to read about and if the audience want to read about the rise in knife crime then that what they’re going to write about. With the internet newspapers need to Fight to keep audiences and it turn keep their advertisers

If you take a step back to understand Tabloidization it’s really all about makeing the news accessible to everyone. Making the news easier to read and understand is never to be seem as a decline in standards
